Full plot (spoilers)
Paul (Hayes MacArthur) and Leah (Emmanuelle Chriqui) are former high school sweethearts who reconnect as adults. Paul meticulously prepares a lavish Malibu beach house rental with flowers and romantic touches for Leah's arrival. Their reunion is passionate and nostalgic—they share an old mix tape, recreate moments like their first kiss, and reminisce about their teenage years. However, the fairy-tale facade crumbles when both retreat to separate bedrooms to make hushed phone calls: both Paul and Leah are married to other people and have children waiting at home, their spouses believing they are away on work trips. They have maintained a secret affair for years and have mutually agreed that this Malibu weekend must be their final tryst. Over the course of the weekend, they alternate between intimate, doting moments—dressing up for dates and continuing their physical relationship—and the guilt-laden reality of their phone calls home to spouses and kids. As the weekend progresses, disagreements surface and the romantic atmosphere deteriorates into fast food and extra drinking as their reservation deadline looms. They face a brutal choice: blow up two innocent families to be together, or walk away and swallow the heartbreak alone. The film concludes ambiguously, suggesting this reunion may indeed be one of the last times they see each other, leaving unresolved whether their decades-long connection can overcome the moral weight of their infidelity.
