Ali G: Who Iz I? is a mockumentary in which Sacha Baron Cohen revives his Ali G character roughly 22 years after the end of Da Ali G Show. After two decades spent doing nothing, Ali G is jolted into action when he discovers his long-term girlfriend Julie is eight months pregnant. Needing money, he travels to Los Angeles convinced he can reclaim his former celebrity. His ambitions are fuelled by an old fax he finds showing that HBO offered him a third season back in 2004; when he tracks down current HBO executives to cash in on the offer, they inform him it has long since lapsed. Undeterred, Ali G attempts to rebuild his profile through a series of encounters with real, unsuspecting people: he tours an unaffordable mansion with an estate agent, consults a DEI coach about cultural appropriation, and experiments with TikTok formats including ASMR and mukbang videos. A parallel threat arrives in the form of Dr. Nira Cain-N'Degeocello — another Baron Cohen character, previously seen in Who Is America? — who is convinced that Ali G is guilty of cultural appropriation and embarks on a campaign to prove he has no Black heritage, enlisting real participants along the way. Ali responds by studying Will Smith's apology to Chris Rock and commissioning an AI-generated video of Black celebrities publicly accepting his own apology, a sequence reviewers identified as the film's sharpest satirical moment. He is also approached by a producer named Karl Cordello with an offer to host a fringe show called The Free Speech Show, in which guests perform provocative gestures. The film culminates with all three of Baron Cohen's recurring characters appearing on screen simultaneously. Reviewers note that the satire — apparently aimed at cultural appropriation debates, celebrity ego, and contemporary America — often misfires, with targets that range from the deserving to the bewildered innocent. The film was released theatrically on 22–23 October 2026.
