Full plot (spoilers)
Mpobe is a skilled hunter in rural Uganda who hunts alongside his loyal dog, Ddungu. One day while hunting, his dog chases a small animal into a dark cave that conceals a mystical portal. Mpobe follows the sound of Ddungu's bell deep underground and is transported to a mysterious underworld — a strange realm teeming with bizarre creatures and ancient secrets. This subterranean world, beautiful yet perilous, is ruled by Walumbe, the formidable king of the underworld (a figure drawn from Buganda mythology as the bringer of death). Mpobe must navigate dangerous challenges including dinosaur chases and encounters with talking trees as he searches for Walumbe's elusive temple, his only path back to the surface world. Along the way, Mpobe learns that survival demands not just bravery but wisdom. He eventually finds Walumbe and strikes a pact: the king will allow him to return home, but only if Mpobe swears never to reveal the secrets of the underworld to anyone. Mpobe agrees and makes his way back to his family, who have been anxiously wondering about his prolonged absence. However, a moment of temptation undoes him — pressed by loved ones, Mpobe breaks his vow and reveals what he saw in the underworld. This betrayal triggers dire consequences: Walumbe comes to reclaim him, threatening Mpobe's life with his family and setting the stage for a climactic battle between the surface world and the underworld realms. The film is based on 'The Story of Mpobe the Hunter,' a traditional Buganda folk tale from Uganda, and is notable as Uganda's first 3D adventure film.
