Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore?

Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? is a concert documentary directed by Garth Jennings that fuses footage from Pulp's sold-out arena performances — shot during their 'Here Comes More Tour' at London's O2 Arena in June 2025 — with four decades of previously unseen archival material. The tour was mounted in support of More (2025), the Sheffield band's first studio album in 24 years. The film presents approximately 20 songs spanning hits and deep cuts, performed against an elaborate theatrical staging that includes a glass staircase entrance, string section, choir, and large structural set pieces, capturing the band in their sixties delivering an energised, choreographed spectacle.

Interwoven with the concert footage is a collage of archival material narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker in his characteristically deadpan voice. The archive spans the band's entire history: childhood footage featuring Cocker's mother and grandmother (both now deceased), teenage notebooks in which a 13–14-year-old Cocker planned to form a band, early period photographs and interviews, vintage television advertisements, and previously unreleased clips from the band's obscure early years including their first Peel session. The film traces Pulp's trajectory from scrappy Sheffield outsiders through 15 years of near-invisible toil, their unexpected rise as Britpop figureheads, their early-2000s breakup, and their eventual reunion and triumphant late-career resurgence. Cocker's narration reflects on the concept of 'pulp' itself — finding value in disposable or overlooked culture — and draws on material from his earlier memoir Good Pop, Bad Pop. The aesthetic is described by critics as unapologetically celebratory rather than deconstructive, made in the spirit of Stop Making Sense and The Last Waltz, with Jennings favouring direct, un-gimmicky concert filmmaking. The film was released theatrically on 24 September 2026 and on MUBI the following day, accompanied by a live album titled LIVE! released 28 August 2026.
