You Dear Boy!

In this 17-minute comedy short, Vera (Barbara Jo Allen, billed under her comic persona Vera Vague) is traveling by train to meet and marry a man chosen for her in an arranged match. During the journey she encounters a charming stranger and falls for him. Dreading the prearranged wedding, she devises a plan: she will feign madness at the reception in order to get out of the marriage. Her scheme unfolds at the gathering, but the comic twist punctures it — the man she fell in love with on the train turns out to be the very fiancé she was trying to escape, rendering her lunacy act both unnecessary and self-defeating.
