Narrative tropes
New Tech Leads to Disaster
mediumMETAXU is introduced as an exciting new online séance competition with a $1M prize, enthusiastically adopted by influencers and eventually 666 million worldwide viewers. Warning signs of genuine supernatural danger are ignored as the competition escalates. The mass global participation directly and causally triggers the internet crash and the opening of the Gates of Hell — disaster as a direct consequence of the technology working as designed and being widely adopted.
About this trope: A new technology or discovery is introduced and initially celebrated, then reveals hidden dangers that escalate to catastrophe. The arc is: marvel > adoption > warning signs ignored > disaster.
You Can't Trust Anyone
highA demon masquerading as a friend hides within the team throughout the story. Suspicion builds that the murderer is one of their own teammates. Paranoia is fully validated when the 'true demon among them — a murderer of many' is exposed by the supernatural reckoning. The enemy was hiding in plain sight among trusted allies the entire time, with the group having to question each other across both nights.
About this trope: Trusted allies, institutions, or authority figures are secretly working against the protagonist. Paranoia is justified because betrayal is real and pervasive.

Full plot (spoilers)
Four popular social media influencers team up to compete in METAXU, an online séance game competition. The rules require each team to live-stream two séances over two nights from the scariest, most haunted location they can find; the team that accumulates the most followers during their streams wins over one million dollars and worldwide METAXU fame. What begins as social-media spectacle and horror cosplay quickly turns deadly when the group encounters a genuine haunting: the ghost of a murdered friend begins following them, and suspicion grows that someone within their own team is her killer. As the competition escalates into their final séance, their worldwide viewer count swells to 666 million, with followers around the globe joining in and chanting along. The mass participation triggers catastrophic supernatural consequences — the internet crashes and the Gates of Hell are torn open, unleashing spirits and demons into the world. The underworld then demands its 'new eternal replacement,' exposing the true demon among them: a murderer of many masquerading as a friend. Only one team member survives; another is left behind in the supernatural realm, with the ominous parting note 'until next time… Metaxu.'
